Fats Spirituality

By peace | December 13, 2006

We often seen beauty as being slim. It is society’s way of ‘educating’ us. When we see fat people, they are ugly. They are not accepted by society and they are being mocked at.

Fats is a word which women fear. Women want to look beautiful, look slim and nice. Men also want to look nice. They dread fats too. I think nobody in this world will want to have tons of fats loaded on their body.

However, when it comes to eating, some people just cannot resist the flavours and taste of fats. Fats smoothen the food that we eat. It adds flavours. We can find fats in meats, fish and dairy products. Too much carbohydrates or sugar in the body will be converted into fats as well. So even if you don’t eat fatty food at all, when you consume too much calorie, or when you eat more than your body can expend, you can extra fats (all these come from the extra carbohydrates or sugars that you eat which is converted into fats), deposited at different parts of the body.

When fats is absent, certain food don’t taste the same as before. These food don’t taste as nice and delicious as it was before. Take for example the case of Singapore Fried Kway Tiao, the usual traditional way of it was to fried it with lard, but nowadays as people are more health conscious, lard are not being used any more. Nowadays the oily wet Fried Kway Tiao is extinct from Singapore already. Hardly can we find the old time Fried Kway Tiao already. Nowadays the Fried Kway Tiao are more ‘dry’ and not ’smooth’ as before because they don’t put as much oil and the flavour is different as well (hardly use lard). Different fish have different amount of fats in them. These amounts of fats which they contains make them unique and different from their ‘relatives’. Some fish taste very nice just because of the fatty contents which they possess.

Fats are not only important in food by adding flavour to the food, it is also important in our body. When a women had lost too much fats in the body, the menstrual cycle is disrupted. Some women who lost too much weight experience amenorrhea (absence of menstruation). For the body to work well, it must have a balance in everything.

Beauty is just too important in this world. A lot of time, people are judge based on first impression. Whether you are going for job interviews or going for audition, the good-looking individuals will always tend to stand a better chance. Even if you have a heart of gold, it takes time and opportunities for people to realise and discover that. But having a nice body and a beautiful face will make the heads turn. People like beautiful things. That is human nature. Humans also want to enjoy life. They want to eat good food, they like to eat. But men and women want to enjoy their delicious food but yet do not want to get fat.

Sometimes when people feel stressful, they eat a lot. They eat to forget their stress. Still others eat and vomit their food later on. They always feel that they are fat, which they are not. They feel guilty as soon as they begin to eat their food. However, they are hungry. So they eat and vomit later. All these are eating disorders which mostly happens in women.

When people experience weight gain due to more fats deposited around their body, they begin to take steps to reduce them. Some take slimming pills, some engaged in more exercises, some spent huge amount of money going to slimming centres. When they have maintained the weight desired, they forget all about maintaining their weight again. Attending dinner, functions, celebrations etc, they cannot resist the temptation of good food, they eat too much again. At times, they eat to forget their problems. Then the weight gain come back again! Then they go dieting and slimming again. The rituals will go on and off.

Because people are so obsess with beauty, and people are willing to spend money for their looks, this open revenues to commercial people who sell various slimming products and even more and more slimming centers, spas and beauty centres in the markets.

In terms of food, “fats” add flavours to our food and contribute uniqueness to the food we are eating. In money sense, “Fats” has bring in money for some(the commercial people), “fats” has incurred a huge sum of money some(consumers who want to be thin). In terms of health, an optimal level of “fats” are essential for normal functioning of the body. People experience mental health problems for fear of getting fat. For example, there are the eating disorders such as bulimia (excessive eating - for people who want to gain weight, or for people who are stressful) and anorexia nervosa (people who do not want to eat, for fear of getting fat).

In society, people cannot accept ‘fats’ such as people who are obese. Very often fat people are being laughed and mocked at. They are subjects of ridicule. They are seen as funny people. I think all these can be educated from young, in the school. People have feelings. Nobody want to be born fat. Nobody want to be fat. They have enough of ‘fats’ suffering for these people. They should gain our help instead of laughing at them. They have to ‘carry’ their ‘weights’ around, which is very hard for them.

The spirituality of fats are just too much and too lengthy to be discussed all at one go. The best thing is always knowledge. Reading and gaining more knowledge is your way to combat your life’s issues of “fats”. Knowledge on how to lose weight and maintain weight is your sure way to health and problems to ‘fats’. Knowledge on weight gain and maintenance of weight is your everlasting way to solve your ‘fats’ problems. Knowledge on why people can gain weight, knowledge on problems of being overweight and problems obese people face. It is already a torture a be fat. Do not add fuel to the fire. Help the obese people, bring happiness and peace to them. That is the right way.
