Keeping Records

By peace | May 2, 2007

Tired of crossing out and erasing in your address book? Use index cards instead and store them in a file box. Write in your friend’s red-letter days and the names of their children — so that you’ll be reminded when you call or visit. When there are changes, you can make out a new card in a snap.

Write emergency telephone numbers on a red card and put it in the front of your card file where it will be available with a minimum of fumbling. Likewise, use blue cards(or some other distinctive colour) for plumbers, electricians, babysitters and all the other household services you use frequently.

Keeping records can be messy when there is no proper methods. When important documents need to be retrieved, a lot of time can be wasted in the searching process. Thus, it is good to have a proper methods of filing our records. Telephone records are mentioned above. Personal records and medical records will be described below:

Personal Records
For people who love to collect things, there are scrapbooks, bags, old newspapers and many many other things around them. Some of the most valued ‘records’ that you have are probably personal letters, photographs and such mementos as newspaper clippings, diplomas and graduation programs. Don’t feel guilty about saving these, but don’t be overly sentimental either — throw out the scraps that will mean little as time passes. To protect these momentos from fire or flood — and to keep them all in one place as well, store them in a metal strong box. Make sure that you have copies of all birth, marriage, divorce and death certificates.

Medical Records
Medical records are important when we need to look back at our medical history.
Keep all the material that you need to process medical and dental insurance claims in one file or folder — instructions, blank forms, eligible bills, birth dates and certificates of all the covered persons and so on. If you’re moving or changing doctors or dentists, ask for a summary of your medical or dental records to take with you.
