Lake Tahoe

By peace | May 7, 2007

Lake Tahoe is the highest lake of its size in the United States. Only two lakes in North America are deeper than Lake Tahoe. Crater Lake in Oregon (1930 feet), and the Great Slave Lake in Canada (2010 feet).

Its been ten years since I last visited California. It’s such a great place and I really miss it, especially the cool weather. It is extremely hot here in Singapore. The room temperature today is almost 30 degree celsius. I am sweating without doing any strenuous activity at all.

My husband rented a car at California. At the moment where we reached California, we went to take our car. As long as we took our car, my husband drove to the nearest motel. We stayed there and for a few weeks. On our stay there, we visited many places such as Stanford University, San Jose, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe.

Today I saw some pictures at Davenport vacation rentals. These pictures are taken from the website. The site provides vacation home rentals for families. There are condos, villas, cabins and more.

Looking at the pictures bring back so much good memories. This was really very similar to what I had stayed there and seen there. Everything was so peaceful and quiet there. There was sauna and jacuzzi at the inn where my husband and I were staying. I love the sceneries of Lake Tahoe — they are so breathtaking. Lake Tahoe is about 22 mi (35 km) long and l2 mi (19 km) wide and has 72 mi (116 km) of shoreline and a surface area of 191 mi2 (495 km2). The floor of the Lake Tahoe Basin is at an elevation of about 4,580 ft (1,396 m), which is lower than the surface of the Carson Valley to the east! With an average surface elevation of 6,225 ft (1,897 m) above sea level, Lake Tahoe is the highest lake of its size in the United States. Another amazing fact of Lake Tahoe is that of the cold water at the lower depths in Lake Tahoe which tends to preserve the bodies of drowning victims and prevents the formation of gases that ordinarily would float them to the surface thus many are never recovered!

These pictures are really inspirational to me. Looking at them, I can feel as though I have ‘went back’ to Lake Tahoe for a while. If I have a chance, I would want to go there again. This time, I would want to have a proper planning before I go there. I must book all my accommodation first. This is because when we were at Lake Tahoe, we wasted so much time looking for accommodation. Most of the rooms were fully booked and we had to go from one motel to the next and that is no fun at all. With online vacation rentals, people who want to go for holidays can easily book their favourite place to stay now. I would love to do that if I ever go for holidays again!
