Ghosts Book Review
By peace | October 1, 2007
Ghosts — One Christian’s Victory. This is a true story written by Ravi Pillai, the author of this book. He lived in a haunted house for a whole year. He recalled his ghostly encounter, not sparing any gruesome details.
Chairs and doors moved on their own, vanishing people, the appearance of grotesque, evil spirits — these occurrences would have frightened away many, but not the writer whose faith was being tested. His testimony illustrates that, you too in encounters with the dark forces, can be the victor, not a victim.
This is a ghost story and much more. In relating his personal test of faith, the author hopes his experiential account of the victory over all the powers of Satan, in the mighty name of Jesus, will nourish and refresh others. Besides your own experience, there is no better way to strengthen your faith in the power of the living God than to learn vicariously from this man’s real life story.
Interesting Quotes From The Book:
The pastor, Robert went on, told them how Satan, even as a spirit, could take control of tangible objects and move them about. He might not appear to us to be doing it all the time, but it doesn’t mean he cannot do it at all. After all, there is a residual power left in him (Job 2:6-7; Isaish 14:16), after he was removed from his heavenly position, with which he sustains his rebellion.
The Lord spoke to me one morning while I was trying to understand a deliverance case. He revealed that when a “charm” begins to operate, Satan takes control of the mind and evil spirits take control of the victim’s emotions. Anything can happen in such circumstances, including complete hallucinations. Some even commit murder without understanding why.
Evil spirits can appear to us in human form and do possess supernatural powers to attack us, especially if we do not have a living relationship with Christ.
That was when the Holy Spirit showed us that in order to see God’s work prosper in an environment plagued with spiritual forces, only a prayerful dependence on God, with fasting, would yield the desired results. The net result of this prayerful disposition, which later became known as the “prayer offensive”, saw the membership of the local church increase from a mere 25 members to 150 within a space of nine months. Demons were cast out, sicknesses as severe as Kidney-related problems were healed, and the word of God was preached boldly with signs and wonders following. It also served to illustrate one important point — when God gets down to work, the enemy will have no other option but to flee in confusion.
It was incredible! I had never witnessed anything like that before in my life. It left me stunned and speechless to see what was taking place around me, right before my eyes: Spiritual beings exerting force even over lifeless objects.
Spiritual beings also do communicate in languages of their own. The Scripture references of Arch Angel Michael’s conversation with Satan in Jude Chapter 1 and God’s conversation with Satan in Job Chapter 1 are just some examples.
There are indeed languages of angels as much as there are earthly languages (1 Corinthians 13:1)
In the days that followed, as I continued to ponder over the events that transpired on that stormy night, it became evident to me that spiritual beings obviously possess the capacity to exert force over matter — something my physics teacher in school would never have thought possible. Their ability to transcend things material and tangible explains why they are able to open and shut doors, blow and move window curtains, drag chairs, and even mimic voices. This explains the telekinetic (Scientifically unexplainable) phenomenon of a haunted house.
The cases of demon possession exemplify the nature of this power with which evil spirits, in the nature of spirits, exert direct physical force over the human body. Almost invariably, the victim’s body is under the complete control of the spirits that have entered into him. Sometimes, he wriggles on the floor uncontrollably or, at other times, displays extraordinary strength.
The biblical account in Mark Chapter 5 of the Demon of Gadarenes offers a perfect illustration. The BIble says he could not even be bound with chains. He possessed tremendous strength, strength that was beyond his human capacity. The truth is, the inner strength he displayed was not his. It was the strength of the many evil spirits which took control of his body, a control he could not resist by his own might.
But what comes out even clearer from the account is this: when they were confronted by Jesus personally, they kept begging him for mercy.
Christians certainly do not have to be afraid of demons. In fact, evil spirits have to be afraid of us who fear and love Jesus.
It all shows one thing: Satan’s army of Demons is no match for the omnipotent God!
