Stairs Or No Stairs

By peace | October 4, 2007

This is beautiful and a wonderful place to live in. Many apartments and houses have stairs which lead you to more rooms and more privacy and relaxation upstairs. When buying house, do you want to buy because of beauty or you want to practicability? I would rather choose the latter. Knowing that life is so unpredictable, I would rather choose a house with no stairs than a house with stairs. Many years ago, I choose a single storey apartment rather than the 2-storey maisonnette. Being newly married and without kids, I had to think of the future. When children are born, having stairs at home is going to be dangerous for them — the playful and curious toddlers period is the time where they will explore and climb almost everywhere in the house. Having stairs at home is potential risk for them. Having extra stairs at home means that there are more flight of steps to be cleaned at home. This is extra chore.

What happen if one day Richard and I are old? What happen if one day I have an accident and I am wheelchair bound and I cannot walk around freely at home? What if one day my parents want to come to my house and they have difficulty walking up the stairs? Old people have difficulties in climbing stairs. These are the things which I consider and eventually, I never choose the maisonette. However, there are always people who choose beauty over practicability. All road leads to Rome. If you have a will, you can have your way. If you stairs at home and you have problems walking up the stairs, you can always use stairlifts! Stairlifts provide more freedom and instant solution to the wheelchair bound people. They can have peace of mind moving within the house, without the need of relying on the help of other people to bring them upstairs or downstairs. With stairlifts, you can have no worry about choosing beauty over practicability.
