Find Peace

By peace | December 5, 2007

I have lost my inspiration. I could not compose my post orderly. I am perturbed and perplexed.

I went to church last week. I hope the church is even nearer to my home. Currently, I need to cycle to the church. It was tiring. There is a slope, which is the most difficult part, that really make Richard and I panting before we reached the church. Taking a bus is equally troublesome. We need to take 2 buses or one bus plus walking. Taking a cab? We ever did that. How often can we afford to take a cab? That would be lavish spending. And to add more fuel to the fire, which I am currently now facing, cab fares are going to increase again! It was out in the news last night. How many times do they want to increase? Within a year, MRT fare is up, next buses and taxi fares then, GST hike, everything is up. Children have stress in school, parents have stress in work, at home, and living in Singapore! Singaporean like me are turning our face green, 脸青青, Face Green Green!

When I was young, I do not understand why we should go to church. My mother told my brothers and sister to go church. My father told us what are sins, what are the things which are wrong and what the church teaches. My parents only understand Teochew. There are no Teochew mass at the church, perhaps only the Mandai Church, St Anthony and St Joseph church has that. My parents seldom went to church during those days. However, those were the days where they went church more often than now. My father had some unhappiness with the church and in the end, he stopped going to the church at St. Francis of Assisi.

At different stages of growth, we learn different things and things which we encounter everytime have different impact on us. Seeing the children now, I can see parts of me when I was younger like them. I can understand them, but not everything about them.

This is the signboard which I had chanced upon outside the Church of St Anthony of Padua. It says “God knows Your Past, And He Offers You A Future. Come In and Find Peace.” Never did I know that Peace is what I really wanted. Never did I know that the ‘feeling’ which I had always wanted since young, this ‘feeling’ is known as “peace”. Thinking back, having trials and hardships had opened up my brain. I had gained life’s lessons in the process. I had known more about myself and had enlightened (not much, but still learning) by a mere stranger who came knocking to me at my msn messenger. I believe all this is the wonder of the Holy Spirit at work.

Searching For Peace

This is a video just uploaded, was taken at the church during Ricsson’s First Holy Communion. This hymn is my favourite, nowadays the church has several ‘version’ of it. The words are the same, but they sang in a different tune. Some can make me ’sleep’ and I do not know how to sing too, though the lyrics are the same.

Thank you for recording this. Our parish priest uses this hymn sometimes accompanied only by a violin and it is so moving. This is the only recording I have been able to find.
