Picture Ponder
By peace | June 19, 2008
Saw this picture at Singapore Flyer, opposite the ticketing or information counter. This reminds me of the time I took the first trishaw with my parents, only one time, and the three of us — my father, my mother and I.
When small, I was considered very lucky, as what my sister always said. She is always very envious of me. She said I got to go everywhere with my parents — my parents always brought me along when they went for tour when I was young. I hate to travel during those time, but I had no choice, but to follow them. But come to think of it now, it was really very lucky and blessing to go tour with them. Now, I don’t even have money to go tour. Now, I want to go places like Botanic Garden, Bird Park or other places also hard — ‘People’ always thinking of earning money only.
People are so funny. They often see other country better than theirs. That was what my parents always said also. They said,”Singapore got so many places, we did not even go all places!” Despite saying that, they are not interested to ‘tour’ their own country. Instead, they always go other country.
When I go other country, I often cannot sleep. There is no place like home. I love my home, and I can only sleep on my own bed, feel really secure only at home. And Singapore is really so much cleaner than those countries which I went with my parents. I am always so happy to be back home, in Singapore, after a few days tour in other countries.
Back to the trishaw, I never like to go ‘down town’ like Chinatown or Little India. I was treated like a ‘king’ when I was young. I was seated on the trishaw with my parents, the trishaw rider riding the tricycle. Back home, our family had a car. We always had car or taxi when traveling. I always got good food to eat at my mother’s house. I am always full. There was one time when my father carried me on his lap, talked to me in front of the steamboat and said,”You must learn to eat more vegetables, otherwise you are getting fatter.” From then on, I watched my diet….But everything change now over the years. Now I am riding bicycle and I am no longer ‘king’….
I am a thinker. Everyday, what my eyes see bring back so much memories and what we see everyday and what we encounter everyday is all a gift of God. There are so many lessons to be learned in everything that we see and encounter in life. Everybody has differences, nobody is alike in this world. Everybody has their own stories to share. It is in learning the differences that we get to find the bits and pieces of life. People in this world are just like our ten fingers. There are people who write about Daily Ponders, there are people who like to talk about themselves, or people who love to express themselves in painting and so on. When all the fingers worked together, we are able to lift up a pencil. Similarly, with the work of all people, the nation and ultimately, the earth can be lifted up by our hands.
