Contact Lens
By peace | February 24, 2010
This is a photograph of me and Isaac having fun time playing with pool water at Casablanca.
Contact lenses are prosthetic devices that fit over the cornea of the eye, thus helping to refocus the rays of light on the retina. Like eyeglasses, they can be used to correct visual defects such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism and are made to fit an individual prescription.
There are two basic types of contact lenses: hard and soft. Hard lenses come in two forms: regular and gas permeable. Soft lenses are available as regular soft, extended wear, and disposable lenses. Each of these types involves specific advantages (see contact lenses buying guide) and disadvantages, generally involving cost, comfort and conveniences.
I have been wearing contact lenses for many years since my school days. My vision was impaired when I was in Primary Four. I wore spectacles and every year, I changed my spectacles at least once. Wearing spectacles are very troublesome. Not only does it affect my looks, it is not comfortable and vision is not as natural too.
I started wearing contact lens when I started working (before my university days). During those days ( late 80s), contact lenses were expensive. Wearing contact lenses are comfortable but they have their limitations as well — the number of hours worn, and contact lens solution. Even though it is said that wearing contact lens is very convenient, one has to clean the contact lens every week and remove proteins as well — rubbing/washing and soaking the contact lens. I had tried yearly, monthly and daily contact lenses. Nowadays, I really prefer to buy daily disposable contact lenses. It really saves me the trouble to remember to clean them or even buy extra solution like protein removers for storing contact lenses.
This is a photograph of my contact lens supplies, together with my contact lens cleaner, saline and contact lens container.
I have tried various contact lenses and the best contact lenses of all is Cooper Vision Proclear 1 day. Some other brands are too dry and is very difficult to be removed from the eyes at the end of the day ( or even within hours — like Focus). The photograph above shows Proclear 1 day. Each box of Proclear contains 30 daily disposable contact lenses. Before wearing the contact lens, I would wash them with saline. I have no need to store the contact lens after wearing them at the end of the day. Contact lens allows me to look good, feel good and relax (wearing glasses is very straining to the eyes). With contact lens, I can have so much fun with Isaac!
